Story Progress

I’m working on a story I'm tentatively calling “That Damned Spot” for submission to the Comet Press extreme creatures anthology.

Despite years of trying to pin down my technique, my writing still defies attempts at building a regular process. Sometimes, I compose the thing around an image. Other times, I think of the whole thing at once and write like a madman until it's drafted. Some come at me in bits and pieces--little moments and bits of backstory that may or may not make it into the draft, but help me to establish the tone and situation. "That Damned Spot" came at me in ten-second clips (relative to in-story time) like Hell's highlight reel. Then, the other day, I thought up an ending, so I guess it’s just a matter of tying the high points together.

If all goes well, this story will include: auto-erotic asphyxiation, obsession, compulsion, painful choices, vicious cycles, black humor and lots and lots of crimson splashes.
