While it may be somewhat slow on the fiction front, that doesn't mean I'm not writing.
During the past couple of weeks, I've been going like gangbusters at the day job writing, editing and preparing to publish the spring 2010 issue of my university's biannual alumni magazine.
Some good news here:
1) Despite the small size of our team, we're on schedule for an early-June publish date.
2) The cover story I've spent the last few months putting together has come out nicely--and it's huge. It's an article about an alum who has gone on to be a successful regional writer. Although it was fun do do the interview and write the thing, I'm always a bit jumpy when writing about another writer. Especially when I have to write the last 1,000 words hopped up on cold meds. However, the draft came back with rave reviews. Whew.
3) I think, overall, we're going to have an interesting issue. Good variety.
4) Putting a magazine together is fun. Hard work, but fun. I still can't believe I get paid to write about interesting people and help guide each issue toward publication. I have a great job.
