52 Stitches Update

Good morning!

Just received word that the latest volume of 52 Stitches is now available at Amazon. Click on the groovy cover below to order.

Here's why you should buy this book:
1) It contains 52 great pieces of flash fiction (including my "Fireboomers"), and is a great value for anyone wanting a quick look at some of the up-and-comers in the horror genre.
2) But more importantly, all proceeds benefit the children of Jamie Eyberg, one of the featured authors, who (along with his wife) died in a freak accident over the summer. I didn't know Jamie personally, but I can tell you that he was a very talented writer--and by all accounts, a heck of a good guy. It was a shame to lose him.

Rituals

All of the holiday cheer in the air, and all of the traditions that go along with it, have prompted me to think about rituals.

We all have them, whether it's informal ones like the time of day we brush our teeth, the number of times we hit the SNOOZE button before we roll out of bed or the formal ones, like those we might observe while attending a church service.

But I'm curious about your writing ritual. What do you do to prepare yourself to write? Do you write at the same time every day? How do you decide you're done for the day?

Show me yours, and I'll show you mine.

Horrorology Update

Hey folks,

The following image landed in my inbox this morning. It's the cover for Horrorology, an anthology published by The Library of Horror Press (an imprint of Library of the Living Dead Press). Pretty nifty, eh?

I can't share a release date with you--I don't have it--but will post an update as soon as I receive the good word.

Special thanks to my NT colleague, Jodi Lee, for all of her hard work on editing this bugger, which contains my story, "Imitation of Life," along with a bevy of great stories by other fantastic authors.

Hmm...another horror story that involves fishing. Along with "Folsom Pond Blues" and "Chums," I'm detecting a pattern in my published fiction.

That makes me curious--because I think most writers work this way to some degree or another. What images, themes, ideas, etc. keep popping up in your stories?

You Can't Handle the Proof!

O.K., that post title was bad--but I'm running on empty today in terms of fresh ideas.

Just wanted to check in to say that I've completed proofing my section of NT issue 13. It was quite a bit of fun to reacquaint myself with those wonderful stories. Readers are in for a real treat this January.

It's the busiest time of year at the day job, too. The proof of the magazine I help to write/edit will be arriving on my desk any minute now. Hope to get that edited, out the door and to the printer by the end of the week. I'm excited for this one to come out, because it includes a special one-on-one interview I did back in September with Tom Brokaw.

On the home front, the wife and I are in the midst of packing for a move. We're scheduled to close on our first house mid-month. I'm sure I'll be grumbling about mowing the lawn come July, but for now, the thought that I'll have my own piece of the American Dream makes me want to do the Happy Dance. I've already picked out my mancave.

It's been a big year. Now, if only I could find some time to write a short story or two.
